Meet Jessica & Craig…. a beautiful (on the inside and the outside) couple who were married in Abbotsford, BC. I was honored to be asked to photograph their wedding, which took place on what was the first sunny lower mainland weekend in a loooong time! After traipsing around Abbotsford, Mission, Deroche and Whonnock Lake, I fell in love with the beauty of this verdant valley (prehaps brought on a teensy bit by the brown-ness that is winter in Kamloops, lol). What gorgeous country!
The day started in the farming community of Deroche, where all the preparations were taking place…

The Ceremony took place at Immanuel Covenant Reformed Church in Abbotsford.
Champagne celebrations & photos at the Mission Bridge! I can’t even begin to express how happy I was to see sunshine in the forecast. January was a wet, soggy, lower mainland month, and a break in that weather was super!
The reception was at the Whonnock Lake Centre, but we took a separate trip out there to catch the daylight. Oh, what a gorgeous, gorgeous place! The cedars, the dock, the lake, the shoreline, the evergreen gardens… paradise! Add a stunning couple and it’s magic! Everyone braved this frosty, slippery expanse of wooden dock for the photos, and it was so worth it.
We ended the photo session at Heritage Park. This gazebo in particular captured Jessica’s attention, and I’m happy it did! So so pretty!
And back to the Whonnock Lake Centre for the reception. The lighting in this venue is fantastic, and the venue itself is just great!
The mother of the bride is a cousin of mine, and I have to say that shooting this wedding was both beautiful and tough. My dad passed away earlier that week very suddenly, and being among his family was reassuring, and focusing on the joy and beauty of the day was a welcome respite from the shock and grief of that week.

Remember that shot before the ceremony where Lela is crying? Her mom gave her a very special gift before the ceremony… a beautiful locket with a photo of each of her Grandmas in it, which was a perfect fit for her bouquet, since roses and lilies represented her Grandmas as well. So sweet, so authentic, so beautiful.
