Padova City {Tranquille Sanatorium} Kamloops

I love history.

Not the kind we learned in school that involved millions of dates and facts.  I love the history that resides in old places, boarded up buildings, falling apart rooms, nooks and crannies that speak of days gone by.  LOVE love it.  I love the kind of history that shows itself in old,  sometimes abandoned and forgotten streets and buildings that seem to whisper their past to you as you walk by.   Padova City, also known as the Tranquille Sanatorium, is full of history.  It’s rumored to be haunted, and it definitely has an air about it.  It was apparently first settled by several families when gold was discovered there, then bought and used as Provincial Tuberculosis Hospital in the early 1900’s.  Later on it was used as a mental health institution.  You can find the whole story here.  The place has been shut down since 1984.  Apparently development of a new community has already begun, and most likely this historical “city” will be demolished and made new.  I really hope to have a chance to get inside before that, but it’s strictly off limits to the public, and I had to be satisfied shooting from the hillside…  {{{sigh}}}

Bridal Fair

Wow, so, the Bridal Fair was quite an experience!  My sister drove in from Salmon Arm to keep me company in my booth for the day, and she was a lifesaver!  The doors opened at 10 am, and while it took awhile for the flood of people to reach us upstairs, when they did it was totally non-stop until the Fashion Show.  I met so many great people on Sunday, although it all turned into a bit of a blur by the end of the day.  One of my favorite questions to ask brides was if they were overwhelmed yet.  Many said “oh, my, am I ever!”.  I think it was a bit of a blur for them too…  the bags of information they went home with was quite something! lol.

I had a draw at my table for a free session, and the lucky winner is Leanne R!!!!  Congratulations, Leanne!

The couch and chairs in my booth were quite a hit, and many people took a few minutes to sit and relax and chitchat.  I wish I’d had more time to spend with everyone there!  The huge canvas and prints in my booth, as well as the photo tree were big hits.

I have to shout out to Marlene at Awesome Blossom {see second photo} for the incredible bouquet she arranged for my display.  It is still stunning almost a week later!!

Bridal Fair Sneak Peek

So super excited (and feeling small butterflies as well) about the Kamloops Bridal Fair going on tomorrow. I’m off to start setting my booth up, but here is a bit of a sneak peek into the contents of my booth. I have had SO MUCH FUN putting all the details together for this fair, it’s been a blast! The second image is my ad from the “Bride’s Guide” that was published in the “Kamloops Daily News” on Wednesday.

And we’re live on the new site!

And I’m live on the new site! I can’t even begin to say how exciting all the changes are for me. Lol. To everyone else out there, they most likely aren’t a huge deal, but to me, well, it’s been a grand adventure, getting to this place.

I took this photo of a Hyacinth blooming on my fireplace mantle this morning, and it’s a bit symbolic, really. Hyacinths are one of those flowers that speak of change, growth, and new beginnings, which is exactly where I am with my photography right now.

This website is the culmination of the new beginnings at Aspect Arts: new website, new “look”, newly full time (no longer do I have to balance a thriving business and an office job -yay!-), new city, new challenges, new friends, a booth at my first Bridal Fair here in Kamloops
(check it out)

One thing that hasn’t changed is my passion for this art called “photography”. It is me. It is what I do. It is part of who I am. I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER. I love to say those words!!

So, without any further ado,  this is me.  This is Aspect Arts Photography.

I am glad you stopped in.  I will be adding Portfolio galleries as soon as my computer and I start getting along (hahaha), so check back in.  This is my main site, and I will be updating it regularly.  I’ve imported a fair bit of my 2009 sessions from my old blog .

Grab a nice hot cup of coffee, or a steaming mug of tea, get comfy, and browse around for awhile. I would love to hear what you think… you can comment below any of the individual posts, or drop me a line in the BUZZ .

What a BEAUTIFUL morning!

While out for my morning run, I found myself mesmerized by the play of the rising sun in the morning mist.  It was beautiful, and, well, I found myself running a bit faster so I could go home, get my camera and return to capture it all before the sun burned through.

I’ve been so busy with preparations for the upcoming Kamloops Bridal Fair, that I haven’t gotten out to take photos just for fun in way too long.  It was below freezing, but it was worth the freezing fingertips!

Wildlights at the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops

Another new adventure for us was the Wildlife Park…… they put on an ah-mazing lightshow every Christmas, and we were told we had to go to see it:)There were thousands of twinkling lights all over the park, a maze, a train ride, fireworks, hot chocolate, bonfires, Chris the Clown (we even saw Frosty there!).  It was a magical meander through a park that has lots to offer all year round.  I wasn’t allowed to bring my tripod (it was a family night out, and my hubby knows me too well, lol… but next year I’m taking a second, photo trip.  So, these shots are all handheld, in the pitch dark, with a beautiful New Years Eve snow falling.  Needless to say, there aren’t any fireworks photos for this post.

The lightshow at the end of the evening was set to music, and one of my favorite Christmas albums, “Christmas Eve and Other Stories” by the Trans Siberian Orchestra .
